MSC Cruises commissioned IBelieveInSwordfish to create animations, designed to run 24/7, for their promenade-deck ceiling display.
iBelieveInSwordfish collaborated with Geneva-based MSC Cruises on their new flagship MSC World Europa, a billion dollar 6700 passenger cruise ship powered by state-of-the-art clean-burning Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) engines.
Most exciting to us is the ship's stunning parametric architecture featuring a 50-meter LED ceiling in the promenade. MSC tasked us with producing over 46 hours of 9k content to run non-stop for 10 days, featuring photo-real CG sea creatures, skies with flocking birds, nature shots, and a wide range of CG generative designs.
For continuity, we created simulated ceilings of parametric architecture that mechanically open and close every hour on the hour to transition between the different feature animations.
Thanks to cloud rendering, we reduced 26 years of rendering time to just a few weeks and delivered the project on time for its maiden voyage.
